AetherSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator for Android, built on top of the PCSX2 codebase and optimized specifically for ARM devices. Developed by Tahlreth, it aims to deliver accurate PS2 emulation with good performance on mid-range to high-end Android smartphones. It supports a wide range of PS2 titles and offers features such as save states, widescreen patches, texture filtering, and various rendering backends including Vulkan and OpenGL ES. The last official release is build 4248, as development was discontinued by the original author. Despite this, it remains one of the most widely used PS2 emulators on Android and serves as the base for community-maintained forks such as NetherSX2 and ARMSX2.
To use AetherSX2, you'll need a legally dumped PS2 BIOS file from your own console, and game ISOs ripped from discs you own. The last official build is 4248 — development has been discontinued by the original author. For actively maintained alternatives, consider NetherSX2-classic or ARMSX2.
